Whew! We've had a whirlwind of a weekend. Brad had to help work the booth for his company this weekend at a Cardiology Convention. Because of all of his training getting ready for his upcoming Ironman, he has spent more time away from us than he would like, so he decided to bring Coop and me with him.
We headed out Friday morning for the long (5hr 30min+) drive. It was a fairly easy drive except that Coop got maybe a 20 minute nap in after lunch. Then he decided to pass out again 15 minutes before we reached our destination. Once we got to the resort and got unpacked, we headed to a yummy dinner at the local marina. We sat outside, so Coop and daddy got to watch all the boats come and go. Cooper was pretty good considering his lack of sleep.
Once we got back to the room, we got ready for bed. That was fun. We had a studio room (open floor plan) and Brad had to get up extra early. We put Coop on one side of the room in the "kitchenette" and attempted to create a barricade with the stroller, pillows and blankets in attempts to not wake him up the next morning when Brad had to get up and get ready. With the noise of his sound machine and our barricade, we were successful. Coop went down about an hour after his normal bedtime and slept in till 9:30. Yay! Too bad I didn't take any pictures of the barricade :)
Brad finished up really early and got back to the room around 11:00 or 11:30 on Saturday. We went for a run around the resort, came back and ate some lunch then headed to the beach for a little while before Coop had to nap. The beach was nice and flat with plenty of room for Cooper to run free and get his wiggles out (and wear himself out). Luckily, we had a huge balcony and the weather was very comfortable. So we laid Coop down for his nap (which he was very ready for) and were able to take showers and get ready while he slept. Brad enjoyed some down time catching up on all the football scores/games and the Ryder Cup on the balcony while I took my sweet time getting ready without a baby watching my every move.
After 2hrs hours, Coop was still snoozing soundly, so I came in the room, opened the blinds, got out his clothes, ran his bath water, cleaned up a little and tried making some noise and he was still out cold. I finally woke him up (which he was not happy about), gave him a bath, got him ready and we headed to downtown Charleston, SC for the evening. We ate dinner at Fleet Landing on the water. It's was an old Navy debarkation building that had been converted to a restaurant after many, many years of sitting vacant. They say it is hurricane proof! We all three split some yummy stuffed hush puppies and some good ole' Lowcountry Shrimp and Grits. YUMMY!!! We then rode around, found a good spot to park and walked around downtown for about an hour and a half. Cooper was a trooper and seemed to enjoy it. He got some ice cream out of it too :) Luckily, I thought to bring his pajamas with us so he could fall asleep on the way back to the hotel. Our plan backfired. Coop was wide awake and having a great time in the car considering it was already an hour past his bedtime. We finally got him to bed around 10:20pm with no objections :)
This morning was another successful morning for sleep. Brad was up and out super early and Coop slept till 9:05 when housekeeping knocked on the door...haha! Oh well. We got up, ate and started packing up. Brad was back fairly early and went for one last run before we had to head out. The place we stayed had free valet and bell hop service, which was great all weekend up until it was time to leave. Then it took them 45 min to come get our stuff to load up. They said somehow it was never written on their sheet to come to our room. Ahhh, disaster when you have a tired and hungry toddler on your hands. We finally got "picked up" from our room and packed up and headed to the marina again for lunch. Coop had French toast for the second time and LOVED it.
After one final pitstop and some gas, we are finally on the road home. It has been a very busy whirlwind of a weekend, but we had a great time and glad daddy brought us along!
